Today I wanted to share the 4 pillars for a powerful WordPress website, and trust me, these pillars work well to create something that builds both authority and trust.
As a matter of fact, having a full web presence today requires a good website and blog if you ask any successful entrepreneur today, whether that business is fully digital-based, or not.
So, here are those 4 pillars, and my tips for the best practices to go with them…
No techies need apply. (building a powerful WordPress website)
I get this a lot, people telling me that it is probably way too technical to set up a WordPress website and blog.
Want some truth? Good, because here it is.
It’s not too techie for you today when it comes to starting a WordPress website and blog.
Yeah, it was a bit about 5-7 years ago but, not today. As a matter off act, even eCommerce platforms like Shopify can be set up in a morning, trust me, I watched one video and boom! there it is (click here).
Besides, with the coaching here, I help you hands on, even though you’ll learn how simple it is, and how to manage this powerful platform to build and skyrocket your business online today.
For now, let’s stick to the simplicity behind these, and what I like to call, the “4 pillars” for building a powerful and effective WordPress website and blog upon.
Content, I hope you do not mind me saying this, but it is still KING!
No matter if you go heavier on Instagram than Facebook, or video more than blogging, content is still king because without great content, well, you are dead here.
Now I know we are talking about WordPress here, and to say such a thing as video being more important is almost taboo, especially to professional bloggers, but, a good WordPress blog that is video based is still great content!
Written content still holds the key here, even on mobile it is said that people read more there than on any other device, including tablets!
It takes titles to help rank a piece of content, and it takes words to spell it out. And because words still rule the proverbial “roost” here, blog posts and static WordPress pages still work for dominating search engines.
WordPress is great for housing wonderfully, well-optimized, and well-formatted content. As a matter of fact, I think it is the best, and so do many, many highly successful companies, brands, and soloprenuers here online today.
The other day I had someone ask me if blogging was on the outs, what they meant was “do people still read blogs, or is it a practice that is slowly fading away.”
Looking at how we consume content online, video being the first choice, of course, but the other choice is articles, or, what is most commonly called…, blog posts. Blogging is going nowhere but onward and upward…, okay, maybe upward slower today, but things are starting to level out here which means that some things are becoming commonplace, like blogging.
There are four aspects of content that convert though that we should pay close attention to, and they are;
Keywords & great titles: Keywords help us get ranked, and great titles help users find what they believe is the best answer to their particular query online today. No, not click bait, I am talking about titles that are not fitting to the guidelines of fake news organizations like CNN or MSNBC, I am talking about titles that contain the words that hit home to the potential searcher.
Great content: Great content, and even good content, works to build, brand, and convert traffic or, what I like to call visitors or readers. As a matter of fact, content is still the best thing since sliced bread when it comes to a practice and strategy that drives the best and most “qualified” traffic. Yes, Facebook advertising is great, but content marketing is completely and unabashedly targeted traffic with a better response rate.
Formatting: “Clean, I like it because it’s clean.” I agree with Sir Lawrence of Arabia, I like a blog post that is cleanly formatted like he likes the desert.
There were days and a time, about 6-7 years ago to be sure, when you need not worry too much about it, but today, without formatting and optimizing content for mobile consumption, well, you might as well poke a stick in your own eye before you publish your next piece of content.
Of course, there is a ton to say about formatting when it comes to using, embedding, and creating titles, subtitles, video or podcast, and images and linking too, but here is the deal, make sure you never forget to write and create smaller paragraphs for smaller screens.
Promotion: It is not enough to simply publish and hope that Google is merciful and gracious to you, leave that to God at the end of your life. For the rest of you trying your hand at what convinces and converts best, content, you will need to push and prod it as you make it “public.”
I pride myself (in a non-prideful way) on the design of the WordPress websites and niche blogs I help you put together hands on with the private coaching and internet marketing training here.
Of course, a design that creates optimization issues is always an inconvenient little (or big) problem to have, sometimes, and I mean most of the time, optimization of a website and its load time should always be a major factor when putting one together.
However, there are plenty of mobile friendly, fast loading themes from designers like StudioPress and Solo Pine Design just to name two. Mobile friendly and fast loading, that are the two key factors for a theme for your WordPress website and blog.
But, remember, it is about being YOU and YOUR BRAND when it comes to design, don’t forget that. Originality is the call for the day, and that sometimes it is great to have help and direction.
Software, plugins more like it, these can be a daunting little thing when it comes to beginners to creating an awesome WordPress website and blog.
I have to tell you honestly, many times I jump into coaching with someone who has a WordPress website already I end up shrieking and screaming over skype! It is a mess, it is slow, it is clunky, and it is overloaded with umpteen million plugins they have no idea how they work.
- Theme Customization
- User Friendliness
- List Building
- Sales Funnel
These are what each of your plugins should represent. If you have a plugin that cannot be listed under one of these categories above then you need to drop it, delete it, it is of no real use!
Software, certain software may work now, but later through updates, it could create issues and or, slow loading time which is a huge issue. Make sure to keep your plugin usage to a minimum, you’ll thank me for the advice later.
Yes, you’ll need some, and some that will make things a little clunky feeling, but if it is a must, keep it, or, look for a good or great alternative first.
Internet & Content Marketing Strategy.
There are so many coaches, companies, and brands for that matter trying to “help me” with my marketing on my Facebook feed that it is absolutely irritating! I never knew there were so many so-called “highly effective” internet marketing coaches without any real presence online, just a Facebook ad and page.
There are too many people here who really do not understand the power of content marketing today, and how it can truly build your paid retention and conversion rates at the same time if properly used.
You need a strategy that can both help to build traffic and conversion, both authority and trust.
Facebook advertising is great if you are selling hats and shirts, but selling and promoting coaching programs, software, and other such services or products, well, your going to need more than that 20-second video to convince anyone.
Blogging plus YouTube video has always been the call for the day for me, every single time. It works for both search engines and visibility, as well as conversion rates.
It is a strategy though, and everyone needs one when they are looking to build a solid WordPress website that works!
