Today’s online marketing tricks and ideas that do not work as well may shock you. With all the hype based around them, the income expectations with the following platforms are scarce anymore.
As an online marketing success and entrepreneur, like you, I have seen and heard it all, at least so far. While over the years we have seen many marketing strategies come and go, many people still fall for some of the craziest things online.
Here we will go over what is not really working so well anymore and, what to actually start practicing to promote your business, products, services and or, opportunities.
The Rabbit In The Hat Trick, We Know It!
There are many tricks to the game and, even more ideas coming from the so-called “elite” of internet marketing today. From $50 dollar webinars to membership sites, the endless cycle of trying to get ahead for the average person online is simply a money sucking mess.
Unfortunately, until now, these platforms worked to get at least some education out on how to make money online, at least without spending a year searching through them on Youtube.
Fortunately, today’s new marketers (myself included) are seeing a better benefit through giving away as much as we can afford…for FREE. Yes, we take a little hit without membership fees and “last call” shout outs, but at least we can sleep at night.
Before we jump into a few or more of these ideas and tricks that are or, have already phased out, I want you to know that you can do this, you can find success online with the right educational tools and, direction.
Round And Round We Go!
1. Scarcity – “Hurry Up, Or Your Out!”
Seriously? you are going to shut out everyone for good or, for a month? Let’s get real here. Unfortunately for the affiliate marketing gurus today, search and social platforms change constantly, so how is there “new” fan-dangled trick going to help me next month!?
This is one of the cream-of-the-crop, no longer useful strategies today. If you are seriously planning this, stop, don’t do it. Honestly, if you are going to close shop, well then, I guess we will all “shop” somewhere else. Scarcity as a trick and tactic used to be a great way to get people to sign up to things, unfortunately, that was 2-3 years ago.
It still happens with the “masters” online, and I can’t imagine anyone actually believing it, let alone buying into it. Don’t be afraid if you did not “pull the trigger” just then, you will be fine and, you will find others offering much of the same information you are looking for, just look.
Where does Scarcity belong? Well not in the hands of information marketing gurus, that’s for sure. Scarcity should be up front and honest. If you are running low on certain products or, your schedule will only allow for only so many people at a time, all this is understood.
But please know this, make sure you are honest about the fact, if you get caught, your business could die out because you cannot be trusted.
2. Upsells – Get Your Crap Now for $39 Before It Goes To over 1K!”
Have you ever seen this one? Yeah, duh. My favorite is to see a product or service from master affiliates and JV Partnerships that “supposedly” sell for hundreds or, even thousands of dollars, that are now “37$!”.
For the last 7-8 years, and even today, this tactic is still practiced. Now I am not saying that all of this junk is worthless, but most of it is. And even though it is a great product, software or whatever, why not charge what it is worth in the first place, I would.
Not to sound greedy or, be greedy for that matter, but if something is worth $200 dollars, charge them for it. People will invest what they need to if it is worth it, trust me, I do. Unfortunately, most of the products and services people are used to seeing online are “get rich quick” stuff, and that stuff usually makes them poorer.
3. Overpriced – Just The Opposite Of the Above Tactic…
I am the cheapest punk on the planet. Although I am not a mean old man like Scrooge, I am still cheap when it comes to purchasing or buying into something.
The one place you can always find over priced “fluff” is online…and that sucks. Most of the time there is a monetary requirement for a webinar, or even worse yet, a $2000 dollar invite from some guy named Mike online for his seminar. Those usually suck horribly.
Overpriced stuff can almost suck as much as what is coming next…Behold!
4. Membership Sites And Recurring Income – Get My Crap So I Can Get Paid More!
This online marketing trick and idea is still huge online, but it is slowly fading. Why? I hate to tell you this, but people are becoming tired of it, especially when the economy is down.
There is only one reason for a recurring income, network marketing, and I do not mean the Empower Network. Network marketing should require it, but affiliate marketing programs and whatever should not, and people are learning that fast.
There is nothing worse that paying your up line in EN just to have David Wood talk your ear off, all the while you learned nothing new.
My best guess is that membership sites will fall off the map as more and more people prefer to pay up front, I know, that is how I charge.
I Hate To Hurt Your Income Potential?
I can’t hurt your income potential, I can only help it. Like I did, you are currently looking for the “real scoop” about what it takes to earn a living online, this makes you one leg up from most people.
There are many tricks and ideas for earning an income online, but most are just that, tricks. Most of these tricks are going the way of dial up, so look to do something different. Here is an idea, learn to build something that lasts, something you will enjoy 5 years from now.
Now your cooking with PEANUT OIL!

Bam??#^ POW}%^** another golden nugget gang! You have to love the honesty. I have been a victim of the GURU’s. I wished I would have met David 3 years ago! Listen to him friends and don’t get pick pocketed thousands of dollars like me!! Great job David!!
Thanks Thax! I was reading a recent report on the different ways to earn money online the other day, these were falling fast on that list. It is our intention to generate an income, an ongoing income, but that will only come through reliable content that brands reliable people, products and services….=) thanks for the comment my friend.
David a great article for the inexperienced who wish to build a business online. From my experience David is a great teacher who will help and mentor you. He will provide you the information for next to nothing but its up to you to do the work!
Thanks David!
I second your thoughts Thax. We’ve probably all heard of Salty Droid & ‘The Syndicate’ by now. David’s right, the moment I hear the above sales tricks I turn off and unsubscribe.
David reminds us to master the fundamentals and create content with real value — And we do need a reminder sometimes. I wish I’d discovered his work earlier too.
