Can you really make money with a blog today? The answer is an extremely emphatic YES! You can earn a great income and successful living with a blog today, as a matter of fact, without one, well, you will be one step behind in your efforts to actually make money here in the first place.
Blogs today, for any business model or platform for that matter, are a must for generating and even converting traffic. And since this is a fact, yes, you can make money blogging today.
So, let’s look at how to make that money and ways in which to build a lasting and more evergreen blogging income and lifestyle today…
Make money with a blog.
Yes, you can. As a matter of fact, I am going to show you some of the best practices for doing just that, making money with a blog below.
To tell you a solid truth, today, more than ever, entrepreneurs like yourself need a blog, even if it is just “part of your marketing strategy.” Nothing is better (other than video) to generate and convert traffic online today.
I hate to burst your bubble, but if you are thinking Facebook is all you need, well, good luck to you, you’ll need it. Even the highly successful traffic driving entrepreneurs on Facebook use blogs and other content management platforms to create the content they are promoting there in the first place!
So, let’s look at how to build a money-making niche blog the right way, the first time…
The right blogging niche.
Indifference. Boredom. Laziness. Choosing a blogging niche and business based on something you have no real passion for will lead the aforementioned attitudes, all of them, and most likely you’ll experience them in that order.
The right niche matters most, so no, I do not follow that “popular” voice that screams “hot niches, come and get’em, hot niches here!”
Building an income generating blog is not about finding the right keywords for the hottest selling junk on eBay or Amazon. Actually, it is about finding what you are interested in, something you are passionate, if you will, about.
For the better part of a decade I have seen people jump from one thing to another, yet, at the end of the day, success finally smacked them in the face the day they started talking about and sharing content about something they were truly interested in.
Part of the coaching here helps people to settle down and know that money is not the first thing we should be focused on when building a successful blog and money making lifestyle online today.
Actually, making money here is a simple (and happy) side effect of good blogging skills, and following your passion.
The right message.
Blogging means staying on topic, or message if you will. It also means having the right message.
What is your blog about? If it is a review site for social media apps, then staying on message and having a simple message, to begin with, is a necessity for success here.
What do I mean by “having the right message?” Simply put, it means that you are creating content for a particular topic or niche that people are interested in.
Staying on message, well, that is pretty simple to understand; here we will talk about on subject in all its different aspects, but only that topic.
The right message is also about creating the type of information and voice for the information itself that people are really wanting or needing, it is not about creating content willy-nilly without no content planning.
Of course, you do not need to plan it all out to a “T,” but some type of plan will help you to stay on message and create a solid message for your brand, business, and blog all at the same time.
The right blogging platforms.
What I mean by platforms, are the different content management systems, social media platforms, and our sales funnel and email marketing software we choose to rely on and put our trust in.
We also need to be on the right platforms. What are the right platforms for a blogger to be on today? Well, here is a simple list of platforms I would strongly recommend:
- WordPress (for your blog)
- Aweber (your email marketing service)
- StudioPress (for your professional WP theme)
- Thrive Leads (for your lead generating software)
- Thrive Content Builder (For landing and sales pages)
- YouTube (because it is YouTube)
- Facebook Page
- Google Plus
- Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram (pick your poison here)
- LinkedIn (optional for some blog niches)
Looking at social media alone, which platform(s) you use or choose to work with will depend on your niche and where the people prefer and how they prefer to spend their time.
Of course, having a Facebook page, YouTube, and Google Plus for that Google friendly connection is a must, but all others I would say should be based on whether or not your specific buyer persona actually spends time there or not.
You do not need to be “everywhere” online, too many social media channels are actually a bad thing, trust me, you can’t control them all, even with HootSuite. While I like Hootsuite, and it is a great platform, that does not mean you are there because you are on 23 social media channels, not even close!
Keep it simple when it comes to your social media profiles and pages, 4-5 are all you really need to be on, and that should include the three I already mentioned above.
When it comes to the software for list building and list conversions like sales pages, landing pages, and email marketing, well, there are a million different choices out there.
Be wise here, you do not need to go broke with list building software and try to cheapskate on your email marketing provider.
The social solution.
Above I mentioned platforms, and even got off track a bit about social media and trying to be everywhere. So, I will not share any more on that point in this section, however, what I said there was absolutely true and should be practiced.
In addition to that, though, the need to run a group page on Facebook may be a consideration too, these are a great compliment to your blog actually, a great way to build readers, traffic, and most of all, personal engagement.
Social media is extremely important today, and not for link building, which is an utter falsehood in the first place, Facebook, Twitter, even LinkedIn are all no-follow platforms. What is important, and what is followed by search engines, in reality, is engagement.
The whole solution to great traffic from your social media pages and profiles will be determined by the engagement you have and carry on.
The right follow-up.
This has everything to do with email marketing and engagement within social media, or, offsite platforms.
Your blog will not just be a place where you will drive and generate new traffic and leads, it is also the best platform to use with your email marketing campaign to convert that traffic and leads into customers or partners, or whatever your end means for each individual is.
Follow up with social media is called or coined “engagement” at the end of the day. This is where and why platforms like Tweetdeck and HootSuite exist and come into play.
While email marketing and some aspects of your social media sharing can be automated, people still demand a little bit of personal engagement via social media, and when you start getting busy, using simple tools like HootSuite will be a plus, even the premium versions of it.
The right follow-up, no matter what platform it is on, is a best practice that must be mastered here, period. If it were not for starting blogs and getting into blogging with topics you are not interested in, lack of good follow-up is the next biggest killer to blogging.
Blogging consistency and patience is the plan.
Nothing spells out success with any business online or off, and any blog here than that of when you are being consistent with creating and publishing blog content, and staying patient with your overall results.
Patience is a must with blogging. You must be patient as you better your writing skills, your optimization skills, and especially with the growth of traffic and readership.
I know it can be a little disheartening sometimes to have slow days, but even here with this blog and website, I have to be patient and let it grow. I will not quit, I will not give up, and neither should you.
See, success here is based on your efforts, nothing more, nothing less. Of course, certain niches may not pan out as well as others, but, usually, it is never the niche, it is us, it is ourselves that fail.
Consistency is how we battle impatience. Through being consistent with your blogging and offsite marketing practices, you will literally win the battle over impatience.
Keeping busy, well, I guess what they say is true; “idle hands are the devil’s playground.” This is why planning out your content for say a month or 4 weeks at a time can help.
Focus on building your list, and focus on creating value through your blog and other content that builds that list. Your focus on these things will help you to succeed with your blogging efforts in the end.
The game plan here is simple; blogging consistency and patience.
Monetizing your blog.
How to monetize your blog is up to you. There are two ways to do this; direct advertising or, indirect advertising.
Indirect advertising is simple, this is monetizing your blog through platforms like Media.net, or Adsense and Amazon, anything that you do not really own or control. This could include network marketing and affiliate marketing software or programs.
Direct advertising and monetization are just the opposite, this is where you are promoting and or, selling your own products or services.
How you monetize your blog is entirely up to you. However, I think using a multiple incomes stream approach is a great idea and practice.
The combination of affiliate marketing and your own products, personally, and as I have seen over time, works perfectly together when you get the right products and or, services to compliment your own.
How can you make money blogging? Well, here are some simple platforms and ideas:
- Niche blogging
- Flipping & selling blogs (it’s easy)
- Google Adsense
- Affiliate marketing
- Network marketing
- Your own products
- Your own services
- Hyper-local blogging
And so on…
You can make money blogging.
Yes, you can make money with a blog today, all you need are some simple skills, a passion for something, and the will to see it through.
With that, get started today, the only thing holding you back from success with a money making blog is, well, YOU, and I mean that!
